Belief Functions and the Transferable Belief Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
Belief functions have been proposed for modeling someone’s degrees of belief. They provide alternatives to the models based on probability functions or on possibility functions. There are several interpretations of belief functions: the lower probabilities model, Dempster’s model, the hint model, the probability of modal propositions model, the transferable belief model. All these models are unfortunately clustered under the generic name of Dempster– Shafer theory, which hides their differences and explains most of the confusion and errors that appear in the literature. belief function and the transferable belief model
Beliefs are the result of uncertainty. Sometimes uncertainty is because of a random process and sometimes the result of lack of information. In the past, the only solution in situations of uncertainty has been the probability theory. But the past few decades, various theories of other variables and systems are put forward for the systems with no adequate and accurate information. One of these a...

Smets, P. and R. Kennes, The transferable belief model, Artificial Intelligence 66 (1994) 191–234. We describe the transferable belief model, a model for representing quantified beliefs based on belief functions. Beliefs can be held at two levels: (1) a credal level where beliefs are entertained and quantified by belief functions, (2) a pignistic level where beliefs can be used to make decision...
متن کاملTarget Identification Based on the Transferable Belief Model Interpretation of Dempster-Shafer Model. Pars II: Applications
This paper explains how multisensor data fusion and target identification can be performed within the transferable belief model, a model for the representation of quantified uncertainty based on belief functions. In the first part, we present the underlying theory. Here, we present some illustrative examples to clarify how we consider the transferable belief model should be used. Some simulatio...

This note is a very short presentation of the transferable belief model (TBM), a model for the representation of quantified beliefs based on belief functions. Details must be found in the recent literature. The TBM covers the same domain as the subjective probabilities except probability functions are replaced by belief functions which are much more general. The model is much more flexible than...
